in the jungle, the mightly jungle

This is a semi rant about how sick I am of the food here... I'm sick of the food here. I don't think I can eat another plate of rice, cheese soup, chicken with special sauce (ketchup, mayo and mustard), pan (bread), chochos, bad nescafe, tortialla española... I do however love the helados de mora (blackberry icecream). Everyone knows that I'm a sauce and spicy addict, well Ecuador is the worst place to be, no spices and not much sauce :( I'm getting kinda homesick too, but I really shouldn't complain, I'm seeing such amazing things.

Last weekend was the group trip to the rainforest, I was a little weary at first because sometimes group trips don't work out. But I had an awesome time, best weekend here so far. On Saturday we went to a zoo where the animals are free and monkeys were jumping all over us. My friend had one on her the whole time and she got peed all over. We did a lot of transportation in the back of a truck, my new favorite mode of transportation, and got rained on on the way home. Later we went to an orquid botanica and we saw lots of pretty flower and learned about medicinal plants. There is seriously a plant for every illness in the jungle. We ate some cinnamon plant that tasted just like Big Red.

On sunday we went to the Hosteria that was really deep in the jungle. Once we got there it was like we were in paradise, there were cabanas, a river and jungle all around us. Later that day we went on a hike that ended up being pretty difficult and long but it took us to a giant waterfall and pools of water. Probably the prettiest place I've ever seen. After swimming and sliding down waterfalls we made our way back. The rest of the night consisted of salsa dancing, tequila and jumping in the river. Probably kind of dangerous after lots of tequila, but oh well.

Such a great weekend, I think I might go back to the jungle this weekend, but to another place for whitewater rafting.
